Castlerigg Stone Circle
Castlerigg stone circle lies within a natural amphitheatre formed by the surrounding hills and fells. Very little is known about the site although it is thought to date back to around 3200bc. Very few excavations have taken place on the site and the only thing of any real importance to have been found was an unpolished axe head found in the late 19th century.
